SFMC Data Extension Row¶
Salesforce Marketing Cloud is a provider of digital marketing automation and analytics software and services.
Insert or update a single Salesforce Marketing Cloud data extension row as soon as Amperity sees the customer interaction, using the synchronous data extension rowset endpoint. Each real-time point becomes one row. Salesforce Marketing Cloud upserts on the data extension’s primary key, so a point for a customer already in the data extension updates that row rather than adding another.
The data extension is the target of this connector. To enter a customer into a journey, use the SFMC Journey Builder connector; to send a transactional message, use the SFMC Transactional Messaging connector. To load data extensions on a schedule rather than in real time, use the Salesforce Marketing Cloud destination.
This connector sends from a real-time journey. See Real-time destinations.
The SFMC Data Extension Row connector is in beta.
Requirements¶
The data extension must already exist in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. This connector writes rows to a data extension; it does not create one.
The data extension must have at least one field marked as a primary key, which is what makes the write an upsert. Salesforce Marketing Cloud rejects a row that does not supply every primary key field.
The installed package that issues the API credentials must have the Data Extensions: Read, Write permission for the business unit that owns the data extension.
Credentials¶
Name and description
The name and description for a credential.
API authentication subdomain
The authentication subdomain for your brand’s instance of the Marketing Cloud REST API.
API client ID and client secret
The client ID and client secret for your brand’s instance of the Marketing Cloud REST API.
Settings¶
Name and description
The name and description for a destination.
Business user access
By default a destination is available to all users who have permission to view personally identifiable information (PII).
Enable the Admin only checkbox to restrict access to only users assigned to the Datagrid Operator and Datagrid Administrator policies.
Enable the PII setting checkbox to allow limited access to PII for this destination.
Use the Restrict PII access policy option to prevent users from viewing data marked as PII anywhere in Amperity and from sending data to downstream workflows.
Account ID
The ID of the business unit to target, also known as the MID. Leave this unset to target whichever business unit created the installed package that issues the credentials. Set it to write to a different business unit; the installed package must have access to that business unit.
Activate node settings¶
The rest of the configuration for this connector belongs to the journey that sends to it. Add this destination to an Activate node, then configure the following fields on that node. Two nodes may send to the same destination and write to different data extensions.
Data extension external key
Required. The data extension’s external key, found on the data extension’s Properties tab in Contact Builder. This is the external key, not the data extension name; Salesforce Marketing Cloud returns an error for a key it cannot resolve.
Primary key
Required. The data extension fields that identify the row, mapped to the Amperity attributes that supply their values. These must be primary key fields on the data extension, and a composite primary key needs one entry per field. Map the value your sends key on, such as the subscriber key or email address: a row keyed on anything else is a write that nothing in Salesforce Marketing Cloud will read. Map attributes that every customer has: when any primary key value is empty for a customer, Amperity does not write the row and the send fails.
Row columns
Required. The data extension’s field names, mapped to the Amperity attributes or literal values written to them. Names must match the data extension’s field names exactly. A column whose value is empty (null) for the customer is omitted from the write, which leaves any existing value in that column in place rather than clearing it.
