Interface tour

This is what each part of Pér is for.

Asking and working happen side by side rather than in turn or in different tools. This is why the conversation sits beside whatever you are looking at, the whole time.

How the window is arranged

There are three parts: somewhere to navigate from, the page you are on, and the conversation.

All three are always present. You can ask about what is in front of you without leaving it, and the answer arrives beside it rather than on top of it.

  • The sidebar, down one side, is where you start work and where your past work is listed.

  • The page is whatever you are looking at — the Portfolio, a plan, an artifact, a settings page.

  • The chat panel sits beside the page. You can drag the edge between them to give either one more room, or expand the conversation to fill the window when you want to read it properly.

As the window gets narrower, those three parts fold down rather than disappear:

  • The sidebar collapses to icons, and when the window becomes too narrow Pér collapses it for you and takes the control away rather than leaving one that does nothing.

  • Narrower still, the page and the conversation become two tabs, one named after the page you are on and the other Chat.

  • On a phone, the page fills the window and an Ask Pér… bar sits along the bottom. Selecting it opens the conversation over the page.

Note

Moving to another page closes the conversation tab and returns an expanded panel to its usual width, so you always land on the page you asked for rather than on the chat you left open.

The sidebar

The sidebar is both the way to start something and the record of everything you have started.

  • Four places to go: New Chat starts a fresh conversation, Portfolio is where Pér gathers what it thinks deserves your attention, Plans is every plan in the tenant, and Artifacts is what sessions have left behind.

  • The Pér wordmark at the top returns you to the Portfolio.

  • Below that, your conversations, with anything you have pinned held above the rest, a search for finding one by what was said in it, and a way to see the whole list when it runs longer than the sidebar shows.

  • You can collapse the sidebar to icons. That choice is remembered for you, in the browser you made it in.

For renaming, pinning, searching and deleting conversations, see Chat history, sharing, and export.

The top bar

The top bar displays the same elements no matter what page you are on.

  • The tenant picker shows which Amperity tenant you are working in, and changes it. See Choosing a tenant.

  • A menu holding Settings and Log out.

On a narrow window these move into a header across the top of the page, along with a way to open the sidebar and a way to reach your conversations.

The chat panel

The chat panel is the conversation, present on every page of Pér.

  • A new conversation offers a few openers under Suggested (for example, Walk me through my top recommendation, Build a segment, What changed since yesterday?) for when you want to see what a question to Pér looks like.

  • The panel can be widened, narrowed, or expanded to fill the window.

  • Sharing and exporting a conversation are in the panel’s own header, because they belong to the conversation rather than to the page behind it.

  • Pér answers in cards where an answer needs input from you. A change to Amperity arrives as a write confirmation, a piece of work as a plan, something Pér wants to remember as a memory to accept. Each one states what it is and waits.

See Chatting with Pér for how a conversation works, and Approvals and write confirmations for what a card asks of you.

The pages

There are four pages.

Portfolio is the landing page. It gathers the work Pér thinks deserves your attention: the recommendations it has made, with a note of when that set was produced and a way to ask for a fresh one, and below them the plans already under way — split into the ones waiting on you and the ones waiting on a job to finish. A Portfolio with nothing on it says so and offers to go and look. See Recommendations.

Plans is every plan in the tenant and where each one stands. Plans belong to the tenant, so this is the same list for every user in that tenant. See Plans.

Artifacts is what sessions have left behind, like reports Pér wrote and files you brought in — yours, plus anything a colleague has shared with the tenant. See Artifacts.

Settings is in three parts:
